The Blog "Sharabha Loka" is intended to be useful for B.Sc. (Zoology) students of Mangalore University in particular and to all other interested students in general.

The title of the blog is derived from the name of a mythological animal "Sharabha". It happens to be the most powerful creature and it is believed that, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The story goes like this: Lord Vishnu, in his incarnation as "Narasimha", kills Hiranyakashipu. His anger does not subside and the whole world fears the wrath. The Gods, therefore, pray Lord Shiva to subdue "Narasimha" and bring peace. As a result, Lord Shiva disguise as "Sharabha", having the head of an elephant and the body of a lion and "Narasimha" was subdued. Since "Sharabha" represents the most powerful and intelligent of all species, the name was chosen to represent animals and "Sharabha Loka" as the title of the Blog in which we intend to provide information about animals.

'Sharabha' is also a part of the emblem of the Government of Karnataka.
